10 reasons to come to Nova Scotia for

AWBR 2023

July 11th – 14th

Academy of Wine Business Research

Hosted at Acadia University

EMERGENCE & CHANGE

For 2023, we have selected a conference theme that we hope will serve as a creative spark, allowing us to think about our research in a world full of new and emerging challenges; and changing contexts, environments, and practices.

Our conference theme is designed to expand – rather than restrict – the conference offerings. So, we will consider the full variety of topics we have enjoyed in past conferences, as well as themed papers.

We welcome submissions beyond wine business to include the businesses of beer, cider, and spirits as we work to expand conference offerings.

AWBR 2023 will include two topic-specific tracks that welcome research on: (1) Asian markets; and (2) craft beer. These represent excellent opportunities for researchers interested in developing their work, in anticipation of the opportunity to submit to upcoming Special Issues in the International Journal of Wine Business Research (IJWBR).

WINE & CULTURE SYMPOSIUM

In addition to the regular conference sessions, there will be an all-conference symposium and panel discussion focused on wine and culture:

Mapping the Terrain: The Historicity and Sociology of Cultures of Wine, A Research Agenda

Presentations and discussion that highlight areas of research potential, including, but not limited to:

History-work and Wine: The crafting and deployment of history and heritage in wine and wine markets.

Wine in Societies: Alcohol and cultures of tasting, sipping, and drinking.

•.  Was Adam Smith right? Economic thought, wine as commodity or luxury good

•.  Politics and wine: Regulation (current and historic), wine, and social class

Future culture(s) of wine: Demographics, technology, and the place of wine

*While we hope that everyone will be able to travel to enjoy the benefits of a fully in-person conference, we will provide access for those who can only attend virtually.

The Academy of Wine Business Research Conference 2023 will be held
